Method & sources

Where to find your figures

Ask the adjuster for the remaining additional living expense balance and any time remaining. Estimate only eligible expenses above your normal costs, such as qualifying extra housing or meals.

How the math works

Divide the remaining dollar benefit by eligible additional monthly expenses. If a time limit is entered, use the earlier limit. The planned-stay estimate also uses the expected displacement duration.

Worked example

A $24,000 balance at $3,000 per month gives eight months under the dollar limit. If six months remain under the time limit, a seven-month stay leaves $3,000 beyond the modeled coverage.

What this estimate covers

A blank time limit gives a dollar-only estimate. Actual reimbursement depends on eligible expenses, receipts, policy conditions, and how long your home remains uninhabitable.

Common questions

Which expenses should I enter?

Enter eligible expenses above your usual living costs. If temporary meals cost more than your normal meals, use the eligible difference. Ask the adjuster about eligibility and keep the receipts.

What happens if the repairs take longer than the time limit?

The modeled payments stop at the earlier of the remaining time limit or dollar limit. Ask the adjuster to confirm both remaining limits and which date starts the clock.
